The Push For Safe Lead-Free Drinking Water Is Still Strong in 2025, and Winters Has You Covered!

March 06, 2025

The push for lead-free drinking water is entering 2025 with growing support at the local level.

So far in 2025, experts in the water sector believe federal funds for replacing lead pipes will continue as planned in the near future. At the same time, local and state governments are stepping up their own efforts for safe drinking water.

Governors in North Carolina and Wisconsin kicked off 2025 with announcements pledging state funds for safe drinking water initiatives that include lead pipe replacement. At some municipalities, efforts are underway to fund lead pipe replacements independently of federal funds, or in conjunction with state grants.

Lead pipes have long been recognized as a public health hazard for drinking water systems. Prolonged exposure to lead can increase the risk of cancer, and potentially cause issues with hearing, digestion and other health issues. Children are especially vulnerable as they absorb lead more easily than adults.

The issue is becoming more top of mind in 2025 as governments are rolling out digital maps documenting how many lead pipes are in service within their jurisdiction. Needless to say, the spotlight on clean drinking water isn’t anticipated to fade any time soon.

And as part of this ongoing push for clean drinking water, Winters has you covered with a broad range of lead-free pressure gauges, thermometers and accessories on the market.

All of Winters' lead-free instruments are compliant with the US Safe Water Drinking Act and the National Plumbing Code of Canada. They are also compliant with the NSF 61 and 371, which are international health standards for safe water delivery and plumbing. Across America, water utilities have long trusted Winters’ lead-free products to keep clean drinking water flowing.
