Texas Cold Snap Highlights StabiliZR®️’s Protective Benefits For Oil And Gas
In the wake of a recent severe cold snap in Texas, the resilience of infrastructure and equipment in the oil and gas sector has been put to the test.
The drastic temperature drop has severely chilled otherwise red-hot oil and gas production in the lone star state. The sudden spell of extreme cold weather has highlighted the importance of safeguarding oil and gas infrastructure with equipment that can withstand extremely low temperatures, even in semi-arid regions where freezing conditions are uncommon.
When it comes to instrumentation, low-temperature silicone gel gauges are traditionally used as a reliable solution for maintaining accurate readings in freezing temperatures. Winters’ line of StabiliZR®️ gauges, however present a much more effective and lower cost solution, maintaining accurate readings at temperatures as low as -60C (-76F).
These performance statistics were proven in a series of
joint field tests between Winters and a customer. This customer needed gauges
that could function on the outside of trucks in temperatures as low as
-60C(-76F). Specifically, they wanted to see how StabiliZR®️ gauges would hold
up against more expensive alternatives like gauges using low-temperature
silicone.
During the tests, a Winters PFQ-ZR series gauge was put through a series of "lifetime testing trials." These tests involved accuracy checks on different ZR ranges, upscale and downscale, before and after, subjecting the StabiliZR® gauges to:
- Repeated exposures to -60C(-76F) temperatures
- Vibration-only tests
- Repeated pressure cycling 20%-80% full-scale range 60,000 cycles.
- Vibration at mid-scale pressure
Data collected in the tests showed that the calibration of
StabiliZR®️ gauges held true within specified accuracy ranges, while the
pointers remained smooth. The gauges remained in clean, working condition
throughout the tests.
As the oil and gas sector reflects on the recent challenges posed by extreme cold weather, the need for reliable instrumentation has never been more apparent. Winter's Instruments StabiliZR®️ Gauges emerge as a beacon of stability and accuracy, outperforming most low temperature silicone gel gauges in extreme low temperatures. Investing in the StabiliZR®️ is not just a wise decision; it's a strategic move towards ensuring the resilience and efficiency of oil and gas operations in the face of unpredictable weather conditions. Don't let your equipment freeze up – choose StabiliZR®️ for unwavering performance in the cold.
